Labour MP Shabana Mahmood has put forward a plan for a new refugee pathway mirroring Canada’s approach.
It would allow firms, higher‑education institutions and local organisations to sponsor refugees, offering assistance with accommodation and work.
The aim is to speed up integration and ease the strain on the current framework.
Mahmood says the route could see thousands of people arrive, similar to the Ukrainian scheme used last year.
Critics claim the initiative might pressure public services.
The government has not announced a schedule.
