The Minnesota Lynx defeated the Golden State Valkyries twice in late August. Minnesota won 77-66 on Aug. 19. The teams met again Aug. 24 at Target Center. Minnesota held the top seed. They had not lost to Golden State yet. Courtney Williams was sidelined. Her right foot was injured. Without Williams in action, Minnesota could not secure the top seed in the matchup.
